The Value Of Emptiness

This Week……….

Lao-Tzu once wrote….. We shape clay to make a pot.

But without the emptiness inside what use would it be?

We create doors and windows to make a room.

But only the space inside makes it useful.

Living beings create many things – jobs, houses, cars, furniture, nations, gardens, clubs, songs, books, plays, movies, political parties, computers, cameras, phones, pottery, art, aircraft, trains, music, cities, boats, trains – the list is far too long to detail.

Yet, without emptiness – the space both within it and between one thing and another – nothing has any use or value.

The space both in and around a train allows people to use it and to travel.

The space both in and around music makes it possible to hear the music…..

The space both in and around food makes it possible to eat the food……

The space both in and around a chair makes it possible to use as a seat…..

So where is your space, your emptiness?

Do you acknowledge and respect it?

Do you honour it?

Is it found in your stillness during meditation?

Or your aloneness during contemplation?

Or your silence in the midst of noise?

Or your nothingness between the words of a poem?

Maybe your emptiness during sincere prayer?

Or your pause between the strokes of an artists’ brush?

Or your halt between the words of an author?

Maybe your hush watching a King Parrot feeding?

Or your quiet as dusk paints its own magical picture across the sky?

Or your submission as the Divine breathes Love into your being?

These days too many people are far too busy to stop and simply be.

And yet it is our Emptiness which is our True Being.

We express our True Being (rather than our ‘trying to get there being’) when we own our emptiness as our penultimate Truth.

That emptiness is you and I.

Everything else is just stuff.

Stuff comes and it goes.

Only True Being – found and expressed at our level of existence as Love) is real, constant, valuable, instant, immeasurable and eternal.

And only at the heart of that stillness do we find the Divine.

For the Divine is Eternal Stillness.

And as Lao Tzu realised, only in that emptiness can existence flower.

And YOU are that flower!

Go be it…..

Blessings,

Peace Be Within You!
