Years ago I heard about a man who collapsed and was taken to hospital.
His condition deteriorated and so he was hooked up to quite a number of tubes and hoses, which took recordings of his condition or helped him to breathe.
He wasn’t expected to live and so the local priest was called.
The family stood around the bed whilst the reverent gentleman knelt beside the man and proceeded to offer him “the last rites”.
The man in the bed became highly agitated when the priest knelt beside him and he hurriedly wrote out a quick note and threw it to the priest.
His family took this as a sure sign of his impending departure from life so they encouraged the priest to continue his ministrations……
Sure enough, the man in the bed took one last gasp and fell back onto the pillows, well and truly dead.
His family took comfort knowing the priest had prayed during his passing.
It was only later, after the family had left, that a cleaner found a crumpled piece of paper beside the spot where the priest had knelt.
On it were scrawled a few frantic words:
Move! You’re kneeling on my oxygen tube!
Who, if anyone, is kneeling on your oxygen tube?
Maybe a neighbour, a friend, a family member, someone at work, maybe a partner?
Like that priest, they may be cutting off the oxygen you need without knowing it.
They may be totally unaware of your needs and simply doing what seems best for themselves. Or they may even be doing it intentionally.
It matters not: if they’re kneeling on your oxygen tube – tell them to please move off!
After they have, express gratitude three ways…..
Firstly, to Spirit for giving you the ability to discern and act wisely;
Secondly, to the person for responding helpfully; and
Thirdly, to Life by making the most of your new opportunity…….
Remember:
The treasure of Life isn’t what comes our way but what we do with what comes our way!!
And that even includes……..oxygen!
