The Centre was always buzzing with activity!
He recently wrote this article and I felt you might enjoy the read, too……
“Back in 1979 I had a strong sense that I needed to stand for the senate in the coming 1980 federal election.
I then launched The Harmony Party and was surprised at how many votes I got from all over Queensland.
What an exciting time it was.
Lots of people stood up and backed my ideas.
ABC Radio Brisbane invited me in for a half hour interview to share my ideas and answer live questions and to my surprise the interest was so strong that the switchboard was jammed with calls.
My time on air kept being extended to from half an hour to over two hours.
With over 30 Queensland candidates standing for the federal senate, I was encouraged by the considerable number of votes that my party received.
Yet in the weeks that followed I knew becoming a Senator was not my best role for the future.
However, I recently looked at the campaign brochure communicating my vision and feel that what I wrote there is even more relevant today than it was in 1980.
Here I want to share my aspirations of how governments could perhaps operate more effectively.
My election campaign brochure read:
Vote 1 – Lionel Fifield – For Harmony
Vote for the happy alternative – Independent Representation for all Queenslanders in the Senate.
Alongside my photo were the words:
Let’s harmonise with each other for a more caring, sharing way of life …
Let’s grow and live in a State of Harmony.
And I went on to state:
“I have made the big decision to stand for the Senate.
People often speak of fighting an election.
It is not my intention to oppose anybody, but I wish to offer myself quietly and honestly as a Representative of the many people who are looking for a New Way.
There are now huge numbers of people committed to a wide range of alternatives in many areas of life.
Lifestyles, healing, childbirth, farming, education, relationships and attitudes are some of the many that are being totally reviewed.
Nobody appears to be satisfactorily representing the thousands of people involved in this evolutionary phenomenon.
Humanity stands at a vital crossroads. A puzzled public is witnessing frightening examples of the limitations of those whom they previously thought were the experts who could be trusted.
Those with alternative experience should be encouraged to share their ideas to inspire the many who dread a frightening and bleak future.
Our political system has functioned acceptably for many years, but people are now questioning its effectiveness.
I believe the division of people into parties does not allow the creation of a government capable of setting an example in harmonious decision making.
People in increasing numbers are rejecting the concept of all issues being black or white and realise that with proper communication decisions can be made for the mutual benefit of all concerned.
I believe that all individuals whatever their age, sex, or apparent handicap have a deep desire to contribute talents to their society in a way which will guarantee development of their self-esteem.
Any denial of this basic human right results in apathy, hopelessness or anger.
Nobody can give others peace of mind, but we can create an environment to support our fellow human beings whilst they develop.
When the majority of people are at peace within themselves, we will have greater family and national harmony along with planetary peace.
I believe we are embarking on a new age of thinking.
Our future leaders will be those who understand the painful process of change as the old dies and the new is born.
Universal wisdom and spiritual awareness will become highly sought after.
Possessions will cease to possess, and intellect will be balanced by heart.
Education and experience will not be seen as separate, and science and technology will be used for the total enrichment of humanity.
We’re now faced with the exciting challenge of steering humanity into a golden era.
There is now an aware generation who intuitively know that humanity is taking the wrong path.
Our previously male dominated society will at last find greater balance.
Vital new people are beginning to move into places of responsibility and decision making.
The individual screams to be heard.
Are you being heard?
Our nation is beautiful despite the selfish abuse of land, plants, animals and each other.
All signs show that we must be more discerning now.
Just visualise the change when we awaken to the wide-ranging destruction and replace it with the sensitive and harmonious application of our energies.
Now is the time for us to decide together the type of world we will pass on to our children’s children.
I see a beautiful new era where politics will move into a place of higher esteem.
I see an age where politics will be synonymous with caring, with wisdom, with self-realisation, with exciting creativity, and with positivity and with harmony.
My vision is for the governments of this country and indeed of all countries is to become centres of aware and increasingly enlightened people.
I want them to be the large open forums so that many people can witness the most open-minded men and women of our time speaking wisdom, sharing truth, experiencing oneness and being touched by universal wholeness.”
Australia … Land of the future?
I believe that Australia has a remarkable role to play in the years to come.
I sincerely believe that Australia with its unique character and geographical isolation is to become the centre of a new culture.
It is time to stop blindly following previously great powers.
Now is the time for us to take the lead in formulating and instituting a new, more appropriate approach to government for the future of humanity.
In this way we will realise our ultimate destiny as creative trustees of our planet.
