Dear Friends,
Many of you are aware that Trudi and I are generally ‘vegetarians’
People often ask us ‘why?’….so here’s our answer……
(We don’t try to convince others to join us so you can read this without throwing out the Sunday family roast….)
Life eats life.
It always has; and always will.
Snakes eat mammals which eat smaller animals which eat still smaller animals which eat grubs, ants, beetles, etc…
Eagles eat quite large birds which often eat smaller birds which eat the bounty of the meadow….
Vegetarians eat life, too.
Apples are the babies that the Apple Tree creates.
Ditto grapes, pears, plums, avocadoes, berries, bananas, etc, etc…..
Life eating life is normal and indeed vital for the survival of most life-forms on this planet.
The difference between the animal and human process is that the animals that are eaten – from the water, air or land – are free to roam their environment up until their moment of sudden death and digestion.
That freedom allows them to experience life on earth naturally and with all of its richness.
Much that is consumed by humans never knows that freedom.
Chooks caged in crowded metal sheds, cows and goats crammed into small treeless paddocks, pigs kept close in restrictive concrete piggeries, fish (such as salmon) sometimes forced to swim endlessly in tiny netted enclosures, even prawns often grown in small farm dams……
That’s the core of the matter.
It’s not what we eat but how we treat what we eat up until its moment of death (including how it dies…..)
After all, all Life is truly holy and sacred.
The animals weren’t placed here to be treated as badly as most are…..
So please choose carefully next time you visit the butcher:
how did the animal live until it died?
Anyone for a fish burger, caught locally straight from the river where it freely swam until its time was up……?
Blessings,
Peace Be Within You!
Les
